Attributed to Jean Bernard Restout (French, 1732-1797) Adoration of the Magi Sanguine on paper 15-1/4 x 11 inches (38.7 x 27.9 cm) (sheet) Property from the William A. Glaser Collection PROVENANCE: Sotheby's, London (as Flemish School, 17th Century); John Fletcher, London, acquired from the above, 1960s (as Franco-Flemish School); Acquired by the present owner from the above, 1969. Pierre Rosenberg emphatically attributed the work to Restout in a letter to the collector dated August 20, 1992. The drawing was completed in preparation for Restout's 1727 altarpiece for the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Saint-Jean-de-Luz (C. Gouzi, Jean Restout, 1692-1768: peintre d'histoire à Paris, Paris, 2000, p. 214, no. P.32, illustrated).
