Lot Details
After Elisabeth Louise Vigée-LeBrun (French, 1755-1842) San Luca self-portrait Oil on paper laid on card 8-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches (21.6 x 16.5 cm) (sheet, oval) Bears signature and inscription on the reverse: Vigée Le Brun Roma / Harry PROVENANCE: Private collection, Oregon. The present work is a faithful copy (likely Italian) of Vigée Le Brun's 1790 Self-Portrait on canvas in the collection of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, Rome. Interestingly, the sitter's features are somewhat less delicate and more Italian in appearance in the copy, and the garment is grey-green rather than blue as it is in the original. Private collection, Oregon.
Presents well. Some surface disruption at edges. A few scattered surface cracks. A very few scattered small dots of accretion. Minor surface dust. Not examined out of frame. Under UV: varnish fluoresces green unevenly. Brushy retouching to the background. A few dots of more finely applied retouching to the figure's costume and proper right earlobe. Framed Dimensions 13.5 X 11.5 X 1.75 Inches
