The Deploration of the Dead Christ (Pl. of the Great Passion). Circa 1498-1499. Woodcut
"The Carrying of the Cross and La Déploration date from 1498-1499; more monumental and legible, these scenes are closer to the more classical images of The Apocalypse. They were sold in sheets by Dürer, before he embarked on a more complete publishing project in 1511, when he had just bought his own presses and wished to publish his large series, adding to them as necessary." (M. Deldicque, "La Grande Passion", in M. Deldicque and C. Vrand, Dürer, Gravure et Renaissance, exhibition cat., In Fine éditions d'art et musée de Chantilly, 2022, p. 157)
