Oil on canvas. Signed, dated, and inscribed “Roma” in the lower right. 75 x 61.5 cm. . [AW].
- Detailed work in particularly beautiful colors from Cretius' creative period in Rome. - The intimate depictions of women are reminiscent of works by the French painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867). - In addition to his work as a genre-, history-, and portrait painter, Cretius was a full member of the Berlin Academy. - After receiving the “Grand State Prize” of the Prussian Academy of Arts in 1838, he embarked on a three-year study trip to Southern Europe.

In good condition. Doubled. The outer edges of the image are rubbed due to framing. With craquelure. A professionally restored tear in the center of the canvas. A thin scratch extends from the left edge of the image to the center, but does not detract from the overall impression. Small retouching in the area of the tear, on the left edge of the picture and in the center of the lower edge. The condition report was compiled in daylight with a UV light source and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
