Lot Details
Lithograph in colors in 8 colors. Signed, dated, titled and inscribed "épreuve d'artiste". Artist proof aside from the edition of 53 copies. On Arches wove paper (with truncated watermark). 47.5 x 35 cm. Sheet: 63,3 x 45 cm.
Sheet 1 of 10 from the album "Banalités", one of together 22 albums in the famous graphfc cycle "Les Phénomènes" (Oct. 1958 - Apr. 1962). [AR].
LITERATURE: Sophie Webel, L'Œuvre Gravé et les Livres Illustrés par Jean Dubuffet, Catalogue raisonné, vol. I, Paris 1991, vcat. no. 685 (illustrated in color on p. 188, different copy). Max Loreau, Catalogue des travaux de Jean Dubuffet, Fascicule XVI: les Phénomènes, Paris 1964, cat. no. 323 (illustrated on p. 195, presumably a different copy).
Galerie Meyer-Ellinger, Frankfurt a. Main. Private collection, Hesse
In good condition. Very slightly browned. On the right above the signature, there is a very slight trace of mounting on the recto (the paper is slightly lighter in this area but not damaged). There is a small pinhole in the center of the white margin at the top and bottom, probably caused during production. There is a tiny tear in the upper margin and a tiny, superficial tear in the paper at the bottom right. Small pencil annotations on the lower edge of the image.
