Lot Details
Pietro Faccini (Italian, 1562-1602) Study for arms and torso Black chalk heightened with white on paper 6-1/2 x 7-7/8 inches (16.5 x 20.0 cm) (sheet) Property from the William A. Glaser Collection PROVENANCE: Savoy Art & Auction Galleries, New York, February 27, 1960, lot 1 (in a group with three other works); Acquired by the present owner from the above. Faccini scholar Mario di Giampaolo saw this drawing in person and confirmed its attribution to Faccini in a letter dated November 21, 1989. In another letter to William Glaser, he requested a photograph of the drawing, intending to publish it in his forthcoming book on Faccini, which unfortunately was not completed before di Giampaolo's death. This drawing shows the influence of the Carracci and has strong similarities with another of Faccini's early works, Half-length study of a man looking upward, seen from below in black chalk and white chalk on brown paper, in the collection of The Morgan Library and Museum, New York (accession no. 1992.106).
