Khartoum School

The Khartoum School was an art movement founded in Sudan in 1960 that sought to develop a new visual vocabulary to reflect the distinctive identity of the newly independent nation. A distinctive feature of the movement was the use of calligraphic scripts, simplifying the Arabic script into abstract forms.
