Serial Art / Serielle Kunst

Serial art is art whose composition is determined by strict rules. The roots of serial art lie in minimalism and conceptual art, and it gained popularity in the 1960s, especially in the USA and Europe. The composition of serial art is a systematic process. On the one hand, the term is applied to describe works of art that are assembled by simple, uniform, interchangeable elements or objects in a regular, easily understood arrangement. On the other hand, the term is used to describe works of art conceived as a series or as part of a larger group. Often the individual work is considered incomplete and must be viewed in the context of the whole.
