Neoplastizismus

Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) defined the theoretical guidelines of his geometric abstract painting as "Néo-Plasticisme" in a manifesto in 1920. He wanted to introduce a new pioneering art based on a reduction of color and form with strict formal principles. Neoplasticism was to express an ideal art in which the basic elements of painting were used only in their purest, most fundamental form. The elements of pictorial design were limited to only primary and nonprimary colors, only squares and rectangles, only straight horizontal or vertical lines.
