Heidelberg School

The Heidelberg School was a late 19th century art movement named after the village of Heidelberg in Victoria, Australia - now a suburb of Melbourne. There, between 1886 and 1900, different groups of artists met in the summer months to paint outdoors, following the Impressionist ideal. The painters of the Heidelberg School developed an atmospheric, naturalistic style and tried to capture Australian life, landscape and sunlight.
