Nazarenes

Within the Romantic style, the Nazarenes take a position strongly influenced by the Catholic faith. The main concern of the group, founded at the beginning of the 19th century, was a fundamental reorientation in art in the sense of Christianity. The painters, who trained at the Vienna Academy, went to the Sant'Isidoro monastery in Rome and devoted themselves primarily to biblical pictorial themes, using old Italian and German masters as a source of inspiration.
