The Bridge

The artists' group Die Brücke, founded in Dresden in 1905, had a decisive influence on the development of Expressionism and modern art in the 20th century. The members of the group held an anti-naturalistic view of art and demanded art without academic constraints. Stylistically, the artists opposed traditional painting, were interested in folk art, African art, Oceanic art and were convinced opponents of complete abstraction.
