El Paso

The artist collective El Paso ("the step"), founded in Madrid in 1957, is one of the most important groups of modern artists in Spain. The group's works were primarily dedicated to gestural imagery in the style of Informel, but at times they were also concerned with other currents of modernism. Geometric abstraction was vehemently rejected and the group called for a reform in Spanish art, which in their eyes was in crisis.
