Fronte Nuovo delle Arti

The main concern of the avant-garde artists' group Fronte Nuovo delle Arti ("New Front of the Arts") was a fundamental reorganisation of art. The group emerged from the association Nuova Secessione Artistica Italiana, founded in 1946, and was renamed in 1947. The main motives of the artists were to fight the pessimism of the post-war world and to revive Italian art, which had not been a leading force in Europe since the heyday of Futurism. The split between the realists and the advocates of abstraction led to the dissolution of the artists' collective in 1952, whereupon several members joined the Gruppo degli Otto Pittori Italiani.
