The Becher School / Düsseldorf School of Photography

The Düsseldorf Photo School is the name of a group of photographers who studied under the influential photographers Bernd and Hilla Becher at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in the mid-1970s. The two pioneers of German conceptual photography wanted to free photography from its expressionist excesses and return to a pure, documentary objectivity without subjective, artistic effects. The signature of the members of the photo school is an objectifying, technically perfect photography that later spread worldwide.
