Cercle et Carré

In 1929, the short-lived artists' association Cercle et Carré ("Circle and Square") was formed in Paris. As the group's name suggests, the artists in the movement were committed to geometric abstraction and wanted to promote their Constructivist approach to art through exhibitions and publications. The group existed for barely a year, but nevertheless had a considerable influence on the development of geometric abstract art, as well as the foundation of the Abstraction - Création association that followed in 1931.
