Hard Edge

Hard Edge Painting is a direction of abstract painting that became widespread in the late 1950s and 1960s, with colour fields strictly delineated from one another by clean edges. In contrast to the often flowing colour transitions of colour field painting, the stencil-like colour fields are hard and clearly separated from one another and represent a counterpoint to the experiential character of abstract expressionism.
