Colour Field Painting

As the term Color Field Painting already reveals, it refers to the depiction of large-scale, monochrome colour fields. This second distinctive direction of the New York School of the 1950s and 1960s is characterised by the large picture formats, the clear departure from the expressive gestural mode of representation of action painting and the close connection between theory and practice in the reflection of the medium of painting.
