Symbolism

Symbolism is not a uniform style of art, but rather an inner artistic attitude expressed through different stylistic means. The painters of Symbolism rejected the superficiality of other art movements, such as Impressionism or Realism, and elevated the imagination to the most important source of creativity. Art should reflect worlds of feeling, visions and fantasies, also show uncomfortable truths and fill every representation with a deep symbolic content.
