Figuration Libre

Figuration Libre is the French variant of the international Neo-Expressionism of the 1980s, which wanted to clearly distinguish itself from the prevailing art trends of the time. Stylistically, it is difficult to define characteristics for the artists of Figuration Libre, since the individualisation of art in contemporary France was again accorded high importance. However, the common denominators are the freely treated figuration, the return to an emotional, subjective mode of representation, as well as a return to a narrative pictorial language.
