Transavanguardia / Transavantgarde

Transavanguardia ("beyond the avant-garde") refers to the Italian form of international neo-expressionism of the late 1970s and 1980s, which positions itself beyond the art trends prevailing at the time. The pictorial themes are again characterised by expressivity, free figuration and emotionality, and particular importance is attributed to individualisation. The term Transavanguardia can be equated with the term Arte Cifra.
