Neue Wilde / Young Wild Ones / New Fierce Ones

The term Die Neuen Wilden generally refers to the stylistic pluralism of Neo-Expressionist painting in Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne in the 1980s, but the term can also refer to international Neo-Expressionism. The unifying formal characteristics of the Neue Wilden include the large formats of the paintings, a very sweeping, dynamic style of painting, strong to garish colours and the need for subjectivity in art.
