New York School

The term New York School describes the innovative developments in the art of American Abstract Expressionism from the 1940s onwards, which were essentially concentrated in New York, which now also distinguishes New York by name as an art centre alongside Paris. With Action Painting and Color-Field Painting, the New York School combines two uncannily contrasting artistic directions, both radical expressions of painting that dispense with content or figuration.
