The Blue Four / Die Vier / Free Group of the Blue Four

The group Die Blaue Vier (The Blue Four) was founded in Weimar in 1924 and consisted of the three painters Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956), Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) and Paul Klee (1879-1940), who were active at the Bauhaus, and Alexej von Jawlensky (1864-1941). The name refers to the Blaue Reiter, where the four artists had already worked together, and the founding of the group had the original aim of establishing the four artists, who were respected in Europe, in the American market as well.
