The Pre-Raphaelites

Pre-Raphaelism is an invariably British art movement that originated in London in the late 1840s. As an antithesis to traditional British art, a group of artists formed with the aim of reforming the strictly academic art landscape of their time. Their main concern was to revive the artistic aesthetics that preceded Raphael da Urbino (1483-1520), who was considered the epitome of ideal artistic creation at the art academies until the 19th century.
