Expressionism

Expressionism is a very multi-layered movement and the term can therefore not be fixed to a specific stylistic art movement. A work of art is expressionist if it makes subjective emotion and mental states visible, or involves artistic exploration of new possibilities of expression. Formally, Expressionist art is completely free of rules of perspective, proportion or naturalistic colouring.
