First School of Fontainebleau (1530 to 1570)

The First School of Fontainebleau refers to the work commissioned by Francis I on the decorative decoration of his château at Fontainebleau between 1530 and 1570. The Italian Mannerist artists summoned to France from Italy by the king created new forms of expression by fusing the Florentine and Roman influences they had brought with them with elements of French art.
