Light Art

Light art is an umbrella term for works of art in which primarily artificial light is considered an independent artistic medium or constitutes an important component of a work. Art has experimented with artificial light since the 18th century, but light art did not establish itself as a recognized movement until the 1960s, not least because of the expanded technical possibilities. Characteristic of light art works is their immaterial, ephemeral nature, as they have only a visual and no haptic component. Light art is often closely associated with kinetic art, minimal art, pop art, or conceptual art.
