Situationist International / Situationist International

At a conference in Cosio d'Arroscia on July 28, 1957, the Situationist International was formed, a revolutionary alliance of European avant-garde artists, theorists, architects, and writers that lasted until 1972. The group called for a reinterpretation of the established concept of art, considered the revolutionary impulse of Surrealism to be lost, and strove for a radical upheaval that would go far beyond the art world. Artistic works were understood by the Situationist International as the visualization of cultural and historical processes, and the association's significant socio-critical and cultural-political contribution is still respected today.
