Arte Nucleare

Alongside the Gruppo degli Otto, the Arte Nucleare group, founded in Milan in 1951, is the second important Informel artist group in Italy. The artists distanced themselves from geometric abstraction and instead pursued the unpredictable processes of surrealist automatism. As the group name suggests, political concerns about nuclear power were given high priority and the painters addressed the dangers of nuclear energy production in their works and the group manifestos.
