Lot Details
Attributed to X Guillerot (French, 1620-1680) Vue de la Tour des Milices à Rome Brown ink on paper 8-5/8 x 14-1/2 inches (21.9 x 36.8 cm) (sheet) Property from the William A. Glaser Collection PROVENANCE: Acquired before November, 1992 (possibly as Circle of Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi). This work appeared in William Glaser's collection by 1992, and based on the collector's extensive handwritten notes, he believed it to be by Giovanni Francesco Grimaldi, or another in his circle, although this was purportedly rejected by Cara Denison of the Morgan Library and dealer Frederick Schab, who both viewed the work in person in November of 1992 and October of 1994, respectively. According to Glaser's accounts, Dr. Ann Sutherland Harris, after visiting his apartment at an unknown date and viewing the work, was the one to recommend the attribution to X. Guillerot, though any correspondence elaborating on this opinion is no longer extant. HID12401132022 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
