Lot Details
Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese, 1760-1849) View of Mount Fuji Over the Lake with Two Sailboats, 1806 Woodblock print with gaufrage 8-5/8 x 12-5/8 inches (21.9 x 32.1 cm) (sheet, chūban) Signed: Gakyōjin Hokusai ga PROVENANCE: Christie's, New York, October 27, 1998, lot 386. Property from the Nelkin Collection HID12401132022 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
Christie's, New York, October 27, 1998, lot 386.
Print presents well with soft gaufrage details on a thin but stable sheet. The condition of the work is consistent with its age. Mild toning throughout sheet appearing even throughout. Mild to moderate accretions primarily evident along extreme edges and in corners likely due to handling. A few mild handling dents primarily evident under raking light; a vertical center fold. A negligible pin hole on upper edge of center fold line; a few negligible dents with negligible losses (less than 1/16") to the sheet along extreme edges; do not appear to impact image. Two vestiges of adhesive/hinges in upper extreme corners verso. Unframed.
