Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849-1936) was a Russian physiologist and psychologist who discovered classical conditioning, also known as Pavlovian conditioning. While studying digestion in dogs, Pavlov accidentally discovered that the dogs' reactions to food changed over time. He trained a hungry dog to salivate at the sound of a buzzer or metronome, which was previously associated with food.
