[MH].
- Lush summer abundance and vibrant colors in a large format: a wonderful synthesis of traditional and modern still life painting in the artist's unmistakable style. - Max Peiffer Watenphul arranges tropical fruits alongside exotic plants in bright pastels for one of his favorite subjects. - The painting featured in the “Große Kunstausstellung” at the Haus der Kunst in Munich the year it was created.
LITERATURE: Grace Watenphul Pasqualucci, Alessandra Pasqualucci, Max Peiffer Watenphul. Catalogue raisonné, vol. 1: Gemälde - Aquarelle, Cologne 1989, cat. no. G 754 (illustrated in black and white).
Große Kunstausstellung, Haus der Kunst, Munich, June 9-September 25, 1966, cat. no. 446 (with the label on the stretcher). Max Peiffer Watenphul. Ölbilder, Aquarelle, Lithos, Galerie Günther Galetzki, Stuttgart, March 22-April 15, 1967, cat. no. 3 (illustrated) Max Peiffer Watenphul - Erika Rössing, Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste, Prinz Carl Palais, Munich, December 16, 1967-March 2, 1968
Hermann Bockschatz Collection, Gronau (around 1989). Private collection, Rhineland-Palatinate. Private collection, Rhineland-Palatinate (inherited from the above)
In good condition. Peiffer Watenphul applied the paint to the coarse burlap without a primer, which is why small holes remain visible in some parts of the painting, as the paint did not completely cover the coarse fabric structure. This is due to the technique used and does not constitute damage. With minimal craquelure in places of the edges, partly with isolated small color losses caused by the loose painting style that leaves the ground partially visible, but not detracting from the fine overall impression. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the help of a UV light source and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
