Condition
Vivian Maier (American, 1926-2009) The Village Streets of Saint-Julien-en-Champsaur (8 works), 1950 Gelatin silver prints, some ferrotyped 3 x 4 inches (7.6 x 10.2 cm) (sheets) From the Ron Slattery collection The photographs here, taken on Vivian Maier's 1950 travels abroad to the rural French village from where her family emigrated to America and the surrounding region, are her earliest known work. Already they show her dedication to her craft and her quickly growing confidence behind the camera. According to biographer Pamela Bannos, Maier was so insistent with her camera that some people in her family's French village thought she might be a spy.
