Pencil drawing. Inscribed "'Quappi' 1929, Viareggio" and "Drawing by Max Beckmann / C. Valentin No on back /stated by Mathilde Q. Beckmann", as well as with the inventory number "7603B" on the reverse. On fine machine-made laid paper (with the watermark "Linen paper SESSITES MILL"). 18.5 x 22.5 cm. , almost the full sheet. [JS].
- Beckmann's wife Quappi in an eccentric pose with a fox fur. - The Beckmanns spent the summer of 1929 in Viareggio on the Italian Riviera. - The life of the Beckmann couple was sophisticated in every respect, especially because of their numerous journeys. - From the important Serge Sabarsky Collection, New York.
The work will be included into the catalogue raisonné of drawings, scheduled for release in late 2023, compiled by Dr. Stephan von Wiese and Hedda Finke. We are grateful for the kind expert advice.
